Legacy Garage 26 begins with a simple idea: take a real car, bring people together, and let the work become a way to learn.
Something real to work on.
Our central project is the restoration of a 1968 Chevrolet Corvair. It gives our curiosity a direction. Every component is a reason to ask what it does, how it connects to the rest of the car, and how we can learn to work on it responsibly.
We want to document the whole process: the condition we start with, the problems we discover, the advice we receive, and the decisions we make.
Knowledge travels through people.
A restoration can connect generations. Owners, mechanics, engineers, collectors, and club members bring knowledge that is difficult to capture in a simple parts list. We want to listen to those people and share their perspectives through interviews and stories.
Classic cars can give a new generation a very practical reason to be curious.
A story bigger than the finished car.
Getting the Corvair back on the road is our long-term goal. Along the way, we also want to build confidence with tools, develop our understanding of engineering, and learn to work together.
As the project grows, this website will hold the record: restoration updates, educational articles, conversations, and the stories of the community around the car.
